Monire Lorentz was born in Tehran, Iran on October 11, 1936. She came to the US in 1957 to pursue her education at Utah State University where she excelled in science and math. She continued to pursue her bachelor’s degree at various universities including Rutgers and Thomas Edison State University. Her passion was teaching math and she eventually found her calling as an instructor and math tutor at Mercer County Community College where she worked for close to 20 years, starting in 1995. She regularly worked with groups of students to overcome their fear of math and be able to complete their required math classes.
As a young woman she loved fashion and sewing—designing and making many beautiful garments that she wore throughout her life. She also enjoyed cooking, making Persian food always with her own personal flair, adapted to her taste and local ingredients. She lovingly tended to many plants over the years including a beloved kumquat tree she maintained for decades, and her flower gardens of roses, hyacinths, tulips, and many other varieties of plants.
She was most delighted in her life to be a mother and eventually a grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Van Noy, her grandsons, Evan and Andre de Villa. She is also survived by her brother (Alan), and three sisters (Michelle, Firozeh, and Farideh). She was the oldest of 35 cousins, and cherished the memories and connections she had within her large extended family.
In lieu of flowers and to carry on her spirit, the family kindly requests contributions in Monire's memory be made to Mercer County Community College: Monire Lorentz Memorial Fund
