Mathias John Rost, II (Matty Rost) of Roswell, GA passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2022 surrounded by loved ones at North Fulton Hospital, Roswell. Matty was born in Milltown, NJ in 1934. As a young man, he was a diesel mechanic which led him to pursue a career in transportation logistics. His entrepreneurial spirit inspired him to begin his own third-party logistics business, MJ Rost Associates, which he successfully ran for 35 years, sold, and retired at age 83. He was an avid gardener, engaged father, enthusiastic collector, lover of western cowboy movies, voracious reader, interested investor, and a staunch Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Fan.
Predeceased by his mother Annie Barr Rost, his father Nicholas Rost, stepfather Louis Denton, sisters Anne Marie Hartman (Edward) and Patricia Robinson (Bob), son David Rost, brother-in-law Ronnie Koye, and beloved dogs Whimsy & Maggie May McGee, Matty is survived by his partner Holly O’Brien, children: Robert Rost, Bill Rost, Debra Rost, MJ Rost III, and Mathias Rost (Melissa); siblings: Ada May Barber (Dick), Nicky Rost Jr., Marge Koye, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He leaves behind eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received Friday, October 14, 2022 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the Bronson and Guthlein Funeral Home of Milltown, NJ. The funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, October 15, 2022, 9:30am at the funeral home.
Memorial Donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
