Barbara J. (Ptasznick) Florczak

Barbara J. Florczak died peacefully at home after a brave battle with cancer on February 26, 2020 in Milltown, NJ, at the age of 78.

Barbara was born on March 31, 1941, in Irvington, NJ, to Walter and Genevieve Ptasznick. She graduated from Linden High School in 1958.  She married Frank Florczak in 1961 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Linden. After the birth of her four children, Barbara went back to school to become a medical technician. She then worked at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for 25 years in various capacities.  She always made time for her children and supported them in so many ways, including as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts and a Girl Scout Leader.

Barbara was accomplished at stained glass art and would make her own suncatchers and lamps.  She was a gourmet cook, expert sewer, and avid reader who was passionate about books and served on the board of the Milltown Public Library for many years. She was active in her church community and served as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church in New Brunswick.

Barbara is survived by, loved, and missed by her husband, Frank J. Florczak; children, Glenn P. Florczak and his wife, Magdalene, Donald M. Florczak and his wife, Andrea, Lara R. Florczak-Reyes and her husband, Ron, and Peter M. Florczak and his wife, Heather; sister, Marilyn J. Morawiecki; grandchildren, Thomas and Nicholas Florczak, Dana, Miles and Ava Florczak,  Elora and Aja Reyes, and Samantha A. and James R. Dunbar; and great-grandchild Luke D. Dunbar. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Genevieve Ptasznick, brother, Walter J. Ptasznick, and daughter, Jennifer J. Florczak.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 AM on February 29th at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church in New Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Milltown Public Library. The family would like to thank Mrs. Jean Napoli for providing loving friendship and care throughout our mother’s illness. The family would also like to thank Mrs. Judy Znaiden for her support.
