Assaad M. Farhat of Monroe Twp., NJ passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center - New Brunswick, NJ.  He was 84 years old. Born in Lebanon, Assaad moved to the United States in 1964.  He was an accomplished civil engineer and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (US and Lebanon).  Assaad was a devout member of the Maronite Catholic Church.  He left a lasting legacy when he planted the roots of his faith in his new home country as founder of St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in Somerset, NJ.  Countless generations have benefitted spiritually and beyond from his toil in service to the Faith.  


Predeceased by his son Munir Farhat, Assaad is survived by his beloved wife Naam Farhat (née Abdo), sons and daughters-in-law Samir and Kristen Farhat and Amir and Mary Farhat; daughter and son-in-law Najwa and Maroun Hachem; nine grandchildren: Julia, Ashley, Ryan, Olivia, Daniel, Christian, Isabell, Jasmine, and Justin; brothers and sisters-in-law Elie and Lillian Farhat and Tony and Rogina Farhat; and sister and brother-in-law Therese and the late Mario Heroui and sister Najwa Farhat. 


Family and friends will be received Tuesday 4:00pm - 7:00pm at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church, 526 Easton Ave, Somerset, NJ 08873.  The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday 10:00am followed by burial at St. Peters Cemetery, New Brunswick.
